Obituary for Allison Joan Kitson (Armstrong)

Kitson, Allison Joan (Armstrong)
Peacefully at home on Monday, September 3rd, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Allison is survived by her deeply loving family, including her devoted husband , Tom; beloved children Samantha and Steven Porte; dear Mother and Father, Joan and Stan Armstrong, loving sisters, Linda Sirie (Larry) and Christine Polutanovich (Nick); and aunt of Mitchell, Daniel, Justin, Jenna, and Julia; and her loving and faithful companion, Dug. Allison also leaves a large, loving, close-knit extended family, including aunts and uncles, and many dear friends throughout Saulte Ste. Marie and beyond.
Allison worked most recently at the University of Waterloo as an office administrator. Prior to that, Allison worked for many years at Sault College including serving for several years as a union representative. Regardless of which side of the bargaining table she sat, Allison’s goals were always focused on the best interests of and in fairness for her fellow co-workers.
As a teenager, Allison battled against Hodgkin’s Disease and won. That victory earned her a wonderful and fulfilling 25 years, including the chance to raise and care for her two beloved children, the pride of her life.
Allison’s fight against breast cancer lasted for over nine years, and included numerous challenges and setbacks, yet her spirits never dampened. She participated in numerous clinical trials for new breast cancer drugs, always with the intent of trying to keep the disease from continuing to afflict upcoming generations.
Allison was a spot of sunshine for so many of the people she encountered every day. She enjoyed music and dancing, long drives, and crafting. She loved life.
Above all else, Allison loved her family and her friends. She leaves so many who loved her to love and comfort one another. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service in celebration of Allison’s life is planned to take place on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at John Wesley United Church (346 John Street) in Sault Ste. Marie where so much of Allison’s family and life was focused. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. with a memorial service at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Lisaard House Hospice or to the cancer-related charity of your choice. Online condolences or donations may be arranged through www.wmkippfuneralhome.com or by contacting Wm. Kipp 519-632-8228.
