Obituary for Bep Rombout

Bep Rombout, peacefully with family at her side at Lisaard House on August 28, 2022.
Beloved wife of John for over 51 years, dear mother to Eric (Tara) and Janine, cherished Oma to Charlie and Xander. Lovingly remembered by her sisters, Jacqueline (Nico) and Maria (Jan), lifelong friend Diny (Walter), friends and extended family. Predeceased by her parents.
Born in the Netherlands, though it was Drumbo that became home and is where she raised her family and made lifelong friendships. She was a member of the CWL for years at the former Sacred Heart Church in Princeton, and a helper at the Drumbo Fair, which she looked forward to every Fall with her grandsons.
She worked hard and enjoyed many years of retirement and travel with John, friends and family. An avid reader, she could often be seen on the front porch enjoying a book on a warm day. She also enjoyed live theatre with her friends and would frequently bike into town, to a friends house, or for no reason in particular; her Dutch roots shining through.
As Oma, Bep loved her grandsons dearly and enjoyed many hours at the kitchen table learning new games (with some odd twists the boys would sometimes throw in) and playing old favourites. She cherished having her grandsons for several days at a time and planning activities with them. She particularly looked forward to and treasured family Christmas gatherings, with all the shenanigans and games that ensued. She could be counted on for an afternoon of tobogganing at home followed by oliebollen each New Year’s.
Though not one to enjoy cooking, Bep ensured none of the harvest from the garden went to waste. She was quick to offer it to others, and preserved or froze it in the form of soup base, sauces, jams and relishes. Oma’s strawberry jam was Xander’s favourite and Charlie fancied her zucchini relish.
As a mother, Bep taught us many things, but perhaps the greatest was this - it doesn’t matter what you have materially; choose to be generous with your talents and anything you can offer, especially your time.
The planner, a coordinator through and through, Bep was known for her organization and thoroughness and even till the end, ensure she left us on her terms and in a planful way.
As a wife, mother, Oma, sister and friend you are sorely missed. Though it was your time, we were not ready.
Welterusten.
