Obituary for Betty Jane Squires

Squires, Betty Jane
Died on April 25, in her 89th year, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, after a series of complications related to diabetes. Betty grew up in North Bay and always considered herself a “Northern Girl” despite living the past 57 years in Ayr, Ontario. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Blanche Squires, and by her brothers, Churchill and Robert. She always spoke easily and lovingly of her parents and brothers. She will be missed by her loving nephew, David Squires, niece Mary Stewart, their children, Jocelyn and James Squires, and Scott and Pamela Stewart, and her sister-in-law, Helen Squires.
Betty lived her life with courage and good cheer. She asked very little of others and was never heard to complain about the challenges that life brought. Betty was well read on many topics and always on top of current affairs. She was a quiet, thoughtful person. Whether providing for her family or friends (or cat or plants) Betty did it lovingly. She enjoyed her computer that allowed her to search the interned for pictures and topics of interest. She held strong opinions and would share them clearly, quietly and passionately. Betty was a fixture around Ayr – in any weather, she and her carefully festooned walker could be seen going from her home to downtown Ayr and back. Betty always enjoyed the visits of many good friends. Bonnie Bauman and Teresa Donnelly were two special friends who helped Betty in countless ways.
Interment has taken place in Ayr Cemetery. A memorial gathering will be held at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home 183 Northumberland St. Ayr, on Sunday May 6 after 1:00 PM, with eulogies and memories to be shared at 2:00 PM. If desired, memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
