Learning to back up

At our house when I was 18 I was allowed to park my bettle in the garage during winter in front of the family camping trailer. Dad had the other side for his big car . Now the trailer was parked with the tongue to the rear just clearing the end of the workbench . Well its spring now and Bonnie is buging me to teach her to drive . Well ok later , no now , well I,m busy , no you,re not you don,t  have to go to work for another 2 hrs. . I knew my mother was persistant now I realised my sister inherited the same trait . ok let me back it out , zig zag past the corner of the house and into the main drive . No I want to do it myself , well think I had better do it first . No I want to back it up all by myself . ok I give up . ok start with the clutch pedal all the way in now start the engine now push the stick over to the right now push it down and over to the right and back  , that's reverse , now let the clutch out slowly , when you feel the resistance give it a little gas . Stalled it . ok lets start again , but I don,t think you have it in reverse , well I,m sure I do she said . I think she was mocking me . ok this time a little more gas to start , clutch out slowly big resistance , so more gas , all the clutch then WHAM , she was in 4thgear and drove the tongue of the trailer through the back wall of the garage splitting the plywood siding at the back . Well when the dust settled , I backed the car out , freed the trailer from captivity , banged the siding back as best I could . I had to get to work . Later Dad just said it looked like a little paint would fix it . Bonnie learned to drive and back up in the main drive .
