Obituary for Carole Anne "Standfast" Meggs

Carole Anne Meggs (Standfast)
March 29, 1942 – March 14, 2024

Peacefully passed in the early hours of March 14, 2024, after a long journey with dementia.
Mom was the beloved daughter of Ralph Jr and Hazel Jean Standfast. Many nights were spent with Ralph and Jean having family dinners, sipping liquors, listening to music, watching movies, and aiding in the care of her mother.
Mom is survived by her two sisters and their spouses, Mary Jean and Ron Pottruff, and Nancy and Wayne Mitchell (deceased). Mary Jean and Ron have been moms’ angels in the last eight years, visiting mom almost daily to feed and encourage mom as her illness took her mind away from us. Mom thrived because of the love they gave her for many years, and we are all so incredibly fortunate that they provided us that gift.
Mom took on the role of a single mom when Mike Meggs and Mellissa Meggs (Brian Kipp) were very young. She always tried to provide us with what we needed, with the little means she had. Many summer nights were spent at the Brantford drive-in, in the back of the ‘silver bullet’ with the muffler half hanging off. We had many trips to the beach, many shopping trips, hair appointments, dinners out and one trip to Florida in which Mom’s navigating took us directly to a penitentiary. There was always a lot of laughter and fun to be had. Many of our friends have a lot of fond memories of our mom and we are so grateful for that.
Mom was the proud Grandma “CC” of Tavis and enjoyed being a part of any activity or event that he would be involved with. Her eyes would light up in his presence and his love was her joy.
In the last 8 years of mom’s life, she had created her new “St. Joe’s” family. Mom was lovingly cared for by the many nurses, support workers and medical staff during her stay. Mom proudly holds the record for the most safety measures implemented for any single resident. Mom was always busy, mischievous, entertaining, and endearing. Thank you for loving our mom.
Mom worked a variety of administrative jobs throughout her life until she landed her final role as a secretary at Pure Metal Galvanizing. Mom took pride in her tenure there, employed for 13 years as the only female. Mom made many wonderful friendships throughout her years and was always available in the front office to listen, laugh or scold the ‘boys’ if need be. Always dressed to the nines, with perfectly styled hair and beautifully done make up.
Mom always enjoyed what she called, a little bit of the “good stuff”, so to honour her, please raise a glass with your family and toast to a memory of our mom.
Cremation has taken place. Private family internment. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when those who meant so much to mom can attend.
You are finally free Mom. We love you xoxo.
