Higgins, Doris Catherine (nee Gildner)
Peacefully, in the loving embrace of the Stirling Heights Long Term Care Family, on Monday October 14, 2019, a long-time resident of North Dumfries Twp, in her 97th year.
Beloved wife to the late E.L. “Ted” Higgins (2011); loving Mother to the late EW “Ted” Higgins (1984); dear sister in law to Colleen Gildner, Joyce Taivainen (Higgins) and Evelyn Higgins. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Rosella Gildner; her brothers Wilbert (Marguerite), Earl, William (Freda), and Donald and in laws Fred (Helen) Higgins, Nora (Joe) Mannion, Tom (Shirley) Higgins, John (Hazel) Higgins, William Higgins and Pentti Taivainen.
Doris was a long-time employee of Carling and Labatts Breweries and missed only one day of work. She was active in sports and participated in bowling, tennis, curling and softball. She was an avid MLB baseball fan. Doris was a great asset to Ted during his years as Township Councillor in North Dumfries and on the family farm in Clyde. Doris and Ted cruised all over the world, and enjoyed many sights, but was always excited to get home to there loved farm where they raised cattle, sheep and horses.
In keeping with Doris’s wishes, cremation has taken place with interment Ayr Cemetery on Saturday November 2nd at 1:00 PM all are welcomed.
Friends are welcomed to the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 183 Northumberland St. Ayr on Saturday November 2, 2019 from 2-4 pm for a memorial reception.
Donations to the Stirling Heights Residence Council would be appreciated or do a good deed in her memory to honour Doris.
