Life Story for Douglas Gordon "Gord" McRuer

Douglas Gordon "Gord" McRuer
MCRUER, Douglas “Gordon”

I’ll fly away, oh glory, I’ll fly away…..
Gone to that celestial shore, on April 6th.
Born April 8th 1932 to Robert & Marion Mcruer, Gord grew up on the family farm on Trussler Road. Alongside brother Don (1981), his parents taught him to work hard but also play hard. Always a team player, he enjoyed baseball and hockey playing for his hometown, Ayr. Once off to university, he made life long friendships with his classmates of OAC ’56. Upon his return to the farm, he married Barb (Kelman 1997) and they welcomed Lynn (Bill Labron, John & Andrew & Brittany Bethune), Mary (Pete Milanovich, Petar, Sarah & Lamar Martin, Katie, Jon, Emily & Mark), Heather (Bob Snell, Ben & Alicia Cabral, Stu & Meg), Doug (Beth Harmer, Will, Matt & Keith) passing on the values of faith, family, education, work and fun. Gord loved singing – whether in the church choir or a quartet. He liked a good game of hearts or crokinole and was a master of the “2-dive swim”…1 dive across the pool and the 2nd one back! His ability to pitch hay bales across the mow is legendary in the eyes of his kids. Left to mourn, Betty & Bert Armstrong, Carolyn Kelman, Margaret Kelman (Nelson 2010), Dave & Marie Kelman as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
Friends may call at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home (183 Northumberland St. Ayr), Friday 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday April 10, 2010 at 11 at Calvary Church, Ayr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Lyrical Lines Education Network OR Calvary Church OR Dr. Michael Strong: ALS Research OR Foodgrains Bank.
Online condolences or donations may be arranged through www.wmkippfuneralhome.com or by contacting Wm. KIPP 519-632 8228 .
……..When I die, Hallelujah by and by, I’ll fly away……
