Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Janet Vanderlip (Ritchie)

Elizabeth “Betty” Vanderlip (nee Ritchie)
Elizabeth Janet Christina Vanderlip of Kirkwood Apartments, Ayr, passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Saturday August 13, 2022, in her 99th year. Born in South Dumfries Twp on July 18, 1924, to the late Thomas Irving Ritchie and Mabel Grace Cochrane. Cherished wife of 49 years to the late Earl Vanderlip (1997); Much loved mother to Donald (Kathy), Neil (Nancy) and Tina Vanderlip (Jim); grandmother to Laura Pys, Andrea Hill (Jason) and Kendall Vanderlip (Stephen), and great-grandmother to Kayla and A.J. Sadly missed by her surviving extended family members and her many friends. Betty was the last remaining member of her immediate family being predeceased by her brothers, Grant, Marshall and Robert as well as their spouses. Betty was born, raised and lived her entire life in the general area between Paris and Ayr. She and Earl raised the family on the farm at R.R.#2 Paris from 1954 until 2011, before retiring to Kirkwood Apartments in Ayr. She loved her family, nature, the gardens and making the world a better place around her. Betty, being an active member of the Ayr Horticultural Society as well as Ayr’s Knox United Church was able to maintain her close friendships with the people she grew up with in the area, outliving many, and will be sadly missed by those still surviving. Acknowledgement and thanksgivings for Betty’s life with a private family service followed by interment at Paris Plains Cemetery, to be held. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes Canada, or to Heart and Stroke would be appreciated.
