Obituary

Gibson, Eric Willam
At Brantford General Hospital, on Thursday June 4, 2020, of Paris, in his 86th year. Dear friend to Linda Charlton and her family. Eric is survived by 2 sisters and their family in the UK. Due to Covid19 Restrictions a proper Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Cremation with Interment St. James Anglican Cemetery. Eric came into my life in 2014 and I was blessed to have spent the last 6 years with him. He was an avid reader and huge history buff. With his move to Paris he became actively involved with the Paris Museum. He quickly made friends with like minded people that shared his passion. He has hosted historical presentations and enlighten anyone who wanted to listen.

Eric and I traveled many places together by land and sea. We saw the world together and had so many amazing adventures and met such wonderful people. He was a wonderful travel companion and always a gentleman. His demeanor and thoughtfulness always made me feel special and loved.

He was a kind soul and one of the nicest people I have ever met. He was such a blessing to all our family and he accepted us all. I am truly grateful to have had him in my life, I will miss him dearly.

Linda Charlton

Eric Gibson

Eric was born on 30 April 1935 in Upper Gwastad Terrace, Cwmtillery, Wales to Phyllis and William. He was followed by sisters Enid and Joan.

Eric studied at Abertillery Grammar School and graduated to became a cartographer of large-scale maps with the Ordnance Survey in Southampton, England.

During this time, Eric was called upon to fulfill two-years of National Service (a form of peacetime conscription) in Bielefeld, Germany. Upon his return to Southampton, Eric relocated to Derby, England to work in the aircraft engine division of Rolls Royce. He also found time to study at Derby College of Technology.

In 1964, Eric immigrated to Canada with his wife, Marian M. Gibson to continue his work with Rolls Royce. He moved later from Montreal to Port Credit, Mississauga in the mid-summer of 1979, following his transfer with the Pratt & Whitney (Canada) aircraft engine company.

Upon his retirement as a senior designer with more than 27 years service, Eric pursued his greatest enjoyments including reading, philately, and publishing numerous historical articles and letters. He was Past President of the Mississauga South Historical Society, and a volunteer with the Society and with the Mississauga Heritage Foundation.

Linda, words can't say how sorry we were to hear of Eric's passing. We always enjoyed his stories and sense of humour. Jim also valued his camaraderie with Eric on historical matters and working with him at the Paris Historical Society. Jim also shared happy times at the Probus meetings with Eric. Jim is deeply grieved at Eric's passing as Jim valued him as a good friend.
I pray that God's wonderful strength will cover you and sustain you in these difficult days.
Love, Beth and Jim
