Joseph Lawrence Eckersley 1929 - 2019
Joe Eckersley, of Ayr, Ontario, passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Monday, April 1st, 2019 at the age of 89 years. Beloved husband of 65 years to Emily (nee Galea); loving father to William (Bill) Eckersley, John Eckersley and Mary Currie (Rick). Much loved Poppa to Corey, Erika and Amanda Eckersley, and Holly Brunton (Ian); and great-grandfather of Joseph and James Brunton. Will be missed by his brother Peter and sisters, Theresa and Margaret. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary Eckersley (nee Daly); sisters, Alice, Margaret, Kay and her husband John Russell.
A young immigrant to Canada, Joe worked his way up from delivering milk by horse and van to Vice President of Purchasing for Rowntree MacIntosh, now Nestle. Dedicated to his family and hopelessly in love with his wife Emma to the very end. He was Holly’s best friend and biggest fan and was with her from day 1. He loved animals and was kind and honest to a brutal fault. There is a void left behind that will forever hold his love.
Cremation has taken place. Family and Friends may call for visitation at the Ayr Chapel, of Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 183 Northumberland St. Ayr on Thursday April 4, 2019, from 7-9 p.m. A Mass followed by interment at Ayr Cemetery will be held at a later date.
