Obituary for Mildred May Buckley (MacKenzie)

Mildred Buckley, known as“Mil” to friends and family, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 29, at Brantford General Hospital with her family by her side. Paris, Ontario has sadly lost a lifelong and cherished member of the community.

Born in Paris on May 22, 1927 to Stewart and Gladys McKenzie. Predeceased by her two sisters, Kit and Jean, as well as her loving husband of 70 years, Terry Buckley. Survived by her three children, Bruce, Brian (Karen), and Barb (the late Mike Phillips), as well as her six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mil was never one to shy away from a challenge, and she and Terry built their family home on Charles St. in Paris in 1947. They quickly started a family and from there built a community of friends filled with many laughs, neighbourhood parties, community gardens, and of course, Mil’s favourite, euchre tournaments. Mil was a devoted member of St. James Anglican Church since 1948, and was a committed member of the church Women’s Guild. The chances are if you attended a church or community function in the last few decades, you’ve tasted Mil’s famous pastry.

Perhaps Mil’s most cherished memories came from her time spent with family and friends on the Severn River at their family cottage. A devoted mother and grandmother, Mil spent her summers “up north” teaching her grandkids how to play euchre and rummy, how to swim, how to knit, how to pick blueberries for her famous pie, and so much more. She valued hard work and a simple life and always made everyone around her smile and laugh with her quick wit and sharp sense of humour.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Telfer Place and the Brantford General Hospital.

As per her wishes, there will be no funeral. A private family service will be held at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the W.M. Kipp Funeral Home.
Donations to St. James Anglican Church would be appreciated. Online condolences and donations may be arranged through www.wmkippfuneralhome.com
