Obituary for Richard David Furniss

FURNISS, Richard David “Rick”
Peacefully, at home, on Saturday September 24, 2022, with his girls beside him in his 76th year.
Larger than life, Rick was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, hunter, baseball coach, hockey goalie, and an avid golfer. He grew up in the church starting out as an altar boy, taking part in the choir and then became a caretaker. He was a Dad to everyone, from his girls, their many friends, grandkids and sons-in-law and even to his charges as a Scout Leader. He enjoyed being a St.John’s Ambulance First Aid trainer and was a strong contender at first aid competitions. Rick was always volunteering in the community and gave as much as he could, proudly giving over 500 whole blood & plasma donations through the Red Cross. He had a long career at Inco starting out in the mines, admirably went back to school to become a Chemical Operator, ending his time there as a First Aid/Security Officer. He had the biggest heart, known for loving on his many dogs and always cherished snuggling babies on his “big drum”. He created a legacy of respect, hard work, loyalty and love and will be missed by everyone lucky enough to have been part of his life.
Beloved husband to Victoria (nee Wilson); loved dad to Terry Heath (Peter), Wendy Furniss (Dean Cruickshanks) and Marcy Jarratt (Devin); cherished “grumps” to 10 grandchildren and 5 ½ great grandchildren; dear brother to Michael (Janet) and Colleen Richardson. Also survived by his cousin and close friend Bill Davis (Rosemary) and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place.
Donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated. Online condolences and donations may be arranged through www.wmkippfuneralhome.com or by contacting WM. Kipp 519 442 3061.
