Obituary for William Harry "Bill" Ripley

William Harry Ripley
June 6, 1932 - July 25 2022
Bill was a true gentleman, A great listener, so very kind, a loyal friend, a loving father and devoted husband of his beloved Liz for sixty-three years. He made the world a better place and those that had the pleasure to meet Bill were better for knowing him.
Born in Philadelphia, PA to Dorothy and William Thomas Ripley, Bill was an athletic and well-rounded high school student who chose to serve his country upon graduation and joined the US Navy serving on the USS Everglades where he spent eight years in active and reserve service. Upon his return, he met Liz & had three children Bill (Angela), Laurie (Mike) and Kristine.
It was fitting that Bill’s vocation was refurbishing and painting homes and historical buildings. He was very talented and saw the goodness in the buildings in the same way he saw the goodness in people. He helped everyone to shine and you wanted to be at your best around him. Bill was ageless with the ability to flip over into an effortless handstand long into his 70s, alongside Liz, he was one of the oldest people to complete the 900 km long Bruce Trail. Typical of Bill on long hikes, he sought out the people that might be struggling, walked alongside them and offered a kind word and encouragement.
Bill was forever curious and knowledgeable about a wide range of subjects like history, geography, and sports trivia, especially his treasured Philadelphia Eagles & Toronto Blue Jays. Bill cherished the time he spent with his family especially his 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He had the opportunity to travel the world, yet there was no place like home for Bill surrounded by his family and friends. Bill passed with Liz and his family by his side. The world was a better place with Bill Ripley in it.
The family would like to thank Stedman Community Hospice and would ask you to honour Bill’s memory by taking some time each day, as Bill did, to be appreciative of nature, family and friends. Bill painted a beautiful life and his legacy lives on within each of us.
