Obituary

Hilborn, Eden Henry

Eden, a lifelong farmer near Roseville, passed away peacefully at the Village of Winston Park Retirement Home, Kitchener, on Tuesday January 21, 2020. Beloved husband of the late Eleanor Hilborn (nee Bond) (2017) for 62 years. Much loved father to Donald (Sue), Robert (Kathy) and Janet Cressman (Kevin). Cherished grandfather to Victoria (Matt), Richard, Andrew, Nancy, Heather and Philip. Eden, born on July 9, 1924, was the only child of the late Clarence and Bessie Hilborn (nee Bickle). Eden will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends.
Eden was a faithful member, elder and Sunday School teacher at Knox’s Galt Presbyterian Church. He belonged to the North Dumfries Community Club, was a 4H leader and Junior Farmer member with expertise in debating. Being 95 years old, Eden had seen and experienced a lot. Horses to tractor, loose hay to chopped hay to small bales to large bales. He rode both versions of light rail in Kitchener. In his teens he was considered a medical miracle being one of the first people to be saved by penicillin after an appendix infection. Most of all Eden taught and demonstrated to us, his family, the ability to accept challenges and changes with a smile, a greeting and a thank you. He lived in the same house for 93 years yet moved to the Village of Winston Park with enthusiasm making new friends from the day he arrived.
Family and Friends may call for visitation at the Ayr Chapel, of Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 183 Northumberland St. Ayr on Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Private interment, Roseville Cemetery. The memorial service to celebrate Eden's life will be held at Knox's Galt Presbyterian Church, 2 Grand Ave. S. Cambridge, on Friday January 24, at 11 A.M. Eden’s family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Winston Park, the Palliative Care Team, and others for making his last days peaceful. Donations to Woodstock and District Developmental Services or to The Roseville Cemetery/Detweiler Meeting House would be appreciated. Online condolence and donations may be arranged through www.wmkippfuneralhome.com or Wm. Kipp 519-632-8228.

I will miss my dear friend Eden who was always ready with a joke and his positive outlook on life! He was one of my favorite patients and looked forward to seeing him every month. My heart is sad but will always treasure my memories i had with him. So happy i have a xmas picture of him and his children to keep. Every time i eat Reid's chocolates it will remind me of Eden! God Bless all of you. He was so proud of all of you! Shelley Woodhouse (Dr Egerdie's nurse)

Uncle Eden was one of the most joyful and supportive family members that we were privileged to know and to enjoy his presence at varying events throughout our lives. He never passed judgement, but was never timid to give an honest and thought provoking response to a query if you were open to thinking outside the "box". His generosity and support was endless to his family and friends always putting his needs second.
Rest in God's presence U. Eden knowing you have taught and instructed us well in the value of life and connecting positively with others. You will live on in your children, grandchildren and all those you inspired.

What a great representative of the farming community. Always a fun guy at Jr. Farmers or at whatever was going on.
Always a smile or a laugh and a question...how are you today?
Thanks Eden for these and many more lasting memories.
