Life Story for Harold Job Gibbons

Gibbons, Harold Job
Harold was reunited with his soulmate Annie (nee Kapusta) (2009) on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at Brantford General Hospital.
Dear Father of John Alfred & Mary Hyatt Gibbons and Lynn (Gibbons) & Brian Scully.
Loved Grandpa of Krista Scully and her children Hope and Ian; Jennifer Gibbons; Shanan (Scully) & Mitchell Bowen and their children Kate and Darren; and Melanie (Gibbons) & Christopher Reading and their children Angelica and Devin. Pa loved each of his wonderful great-grandchildren. Harold is survived by his sisters, Eileen(Lyle) Kitchen, Marieca Franklin and brother, Joe (Sherry) Gibbons and his brother-in-law John (Rosemarie) Kapusta. He is predeceased by the love of his life, Anna (Kapusta), infant son, Darren; parents, Alfred and May (O'Connor) Gibbons; infant sister, Doreen; brothers, Alfred (at Dieppe) and Gerald (Ola) Gibbons; and brother-in-law, Reg Franklin. Harold will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
In March of 1943, at just 16, Harold signed on in the Merchant Marines where he sailed around South America, through the Magellan Straights and back through the Panama Canal, returning in October of 1943. In December 1943, after being rejected by the Army for being too small, Harold joined the RCAF as a Tail Gunner. He arrived in England on his 18th Birthday in October 1944. Following VE Day (Apr. 1945) Harold volunteered to serve in the Pacific but the War ended before his training finished. Harold was extremely proud of his military service for his country. Harold then enlisted with the Merchant Marines for a second term and sailed to Egypt and other areas in the Mediteranean and Africa, sailing through the Suez Canal.
He was a life member of the Burford Cathcart Harley Legion Branch 543 where he had served in all offices of the executive. Harold received the Medal of Merit and the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal for Community Service.
Many thanks to Dr. Edward Ho for his care and friendship for over 25 years
