To Lorne's Family I am not sure if you will see this message, especially since nearly 11 months have gone by since Lorne passed away. We knew him from St Joe's ALC unit where my Dad, Bill Maas spent that remaining 6 months of his life before he passed away on January 21, 2010. We immediately made friends with Lorne. How could we not, he was so outgoing, friendly and was full of personality and good conversation. Lorne made that unit more like a home for everyone. He was a good neighbour. My Dad wasn't much of a talker but Lorne always went out of his way to attempt to strike up a conversation with him. He was a lovely man that we quickly came to have a great affection for. We always talked Tiger Cats...we are big fans. Occasionly i would sneak him in a walnut crunch from Tim Hortons and his would be all smiles and hugs when i handed it over to him. On the day that my Dad passed away, i arrive at the hospital not realizing what had transpired. I was simply asked to come . Lorne was the first person that i saw and without even knowing that my Dad was gone, Lorne was the first person to intercept me and offer me the biggest, warmest hug you could ever imagine. He always put others first,. We visited with him when he had a set back and ended up on the 4th floor. He lit up like a Christmas tree when we walked in....he was so appreciative of even the smallest gesture. He cared about everyone that he shared his day to day life with. We will remember him as a warm and caring man with a great sense of humour and a heart bigger than Texas. We are extremely sad that he is gone.....really sad.
