Obituary for Margaret Elaine Hook

Hook, Margaret “Mars” Elaine (nee Rigby), passed away peacefully at Stedman Community Hospice, Brantford, on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 in her 87th year. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred Hook (d. 1982).
Marg was an amazing woman and a bit of a trail blazer. She obtained her pilot's license at age 21, was the past president of the Ontario Credit Union, and worked professionally as an accounts manager in Toronto and Paris. She enjoyed music and theatre and was a member of the York Minstrels and the Galt Little Theatre for many years, and was recognized for outstanding contribution to the Lion’s Club. Marg lived for seven years in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and became the president of the SPCA while living there. She traveled extensively throughout her life. She lived for many years at Telfer Place in Paris, Ontario and enjoyed the activities and friendships she developed in this affable retirement community.
Marg will be sadly missed by all, including her brother Doug Rigby and his wife Mary, of Nova Scotia as well as her sister-in-law Cathy (the late Gordon) Rigby, also of Nova Scotia. Marg was Aunt to Debbie McBean (Stewart), Cindy Anstey (Michael), Stephen Rigby and to the late Robin Asamidori Rigby (d. 2007), and Great-Aunt to Christine and Daniel Anstey, and to Dillan, Matthew Rigby. Also, missed by her cousins Jean Davis and Ian and Blandford Kay, and long-time friends Anna Buchanan and Eleanor Hayden.
Marg joined the Hook family in 1970 and gave Alfie a second lease on life, introducing him to many new experiences during their years together. Her smiling face and sense of humor will be missed at our family gatherings by daughter-in-law Jan Hook (Tony, d. 1995), grand-daughters, Jane Hook (Linda Simpson), Sue Faw (Mike), Diane Staats (Dan) and Ellen Hook (Mike Fink) as well as great grandchildren, Megan, Kieran, and Andrew Faw, Jessica and Koenraad Staats, and Charlotte and Zaac Tilley; and great-great grandchildren Madeleine and Adrian Racine.
Many thanks for the wonderful care she received from the staff at both Telfer Place, in Paris, and Stedman Hospice, in Brantford.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Marg’s name may be made to the SPCA, Stedman Hospice, or Red Cross.
