It was my pleasure to garden with Charlie at Telfer Place for the last three years. His presence always gave me a smile, all the more so as I came to know more of his life which to me was one of admirable distinction. Charlie always had a smile for me and thanked me for our seed planting, potting up and so on. His painting spoke to me of a man whose creative spirit shone until the end of his life.
