Thomson, Daniel Lyle "Dink"
As a life long resident of Paris, in his 57th year of life, Dan passed away peacefully in the company of his family at Grand River Hospital on Saturday, November 2, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
He was a beloved dad to Tara “TNT” (Brian) and Dan “JR” (Tony); special grandpa to Jade and Zeus; friend to Freda; loved brother to Donna Burkhart (Lee); brother-in-law to Ingrid Banks (David); very special uncle to Timothy (Amanda), Mathew (Carly), Elisia and Darren (Claudette). He is also survived by his life long friend Doug Ashby, “The Guys” and golfing partner Daneka. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Margaret Thomson.
Dan led a full and social life and could often be found with friends building award winning demolition derby cars and later became a teacher and mentor to many young drivers. He was an avid NASCAR fan, having spent more than 20 years watching and traveling to races; MIS will always hold a special place in many hearts. His many friends will always remember their times with "Dink" spent hunting, sledding, golfing or just "hanging out".
More than anything he was devoted to his family and friends, and was never more than a phone call away. He was active in his community and was a long time member of Ducks Unlimited (25 years), the Kinsmen Club and the Paris Legion. He was dedicated to his lifelong career at Paris Playground and spent the later parts of life Marshaling at Paris Golf and Country Club.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his wonderful life will take place on Saturday November 9th, 2013. The family would like to respectfully request that no flowers be sent, but donations to the Brantford General Hospital ICU unit would be greatly appreciated.
