Obituary for Mabel Eileen Hutchinson (Holder)

Mabel Eileen Hutchinson (nee Holder)

Born October 10, 1927. Died peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Thursday March 15, 2012.
Cherished wife for 63 years to John (Jack) Hutchinson and loving mother to six sons: Terry (Barbara), Bruce, Brent (Debbie), Gary (Lori), Kevin (Geri) and Robin (Paula); proud grandmother to Bryan (Angela), Darryl (Sharon), John (Hanna), Mark (Katie), Stephanie, Scott, John, Alison, Rachel, Michael, the late Jordan, Calvin, Andrew and Natasha, and great grandmother to Taylor, Dannica, Ashton, Kirstin and Dalton. The second child of five to her parents, Tom and Nettie Holder, Mabel is sadly missed by sister Beth (the late Rev. Clifford) Waite, sister Nancy (the late David) Edmondson, sister Eleanor (Ed) Gretzky and brother Arthur (Carol) Holder. Grieved by sisters-in-law Eleanor (Spencer) Elmes, Jean (the late Lorne) Hutchinson, and predeceased by Beatrice (the late Joe) Plumstead. Also many cousins, nephews and nieces and their families.
Following graduation from Paris District High School where she was active in several sports and student clubs, she worked as a school secretary. She fell in love with Jack Hutchinson and they were married in 1948 and began life together on their farm on the Brant-Oxford Townline. In 1951 they proudly welcomed their first of what was to be six sons. When the youngest boys began school she returned to her former career and worked as school secretary, first in Drumbo Public and then in Princeton Public schools. She and Jack retired in 1988 and built a home on the Townline a couple of kilometers south of the family farm. There she continued her lifelong joy of gardening and plants and lavished love and attention on her husband and sons with their growing families. Later she and Jack moved into Telfer Place in Paris, Ontario..
Mabel was a proud member of the Richwood United Church where she was active in the United Church Women, holding many positions of leadership and participating in numerous community functions and celebrations. She also sang in the church choir and taught in the Sunday School. Mabel shared her husband’s love of music, played the piano for many years and ensured that all six sons took piano lessons.
