Condolence From: Larry Willman
Condolence: Mr Hulley was a teacher Of mine at Bloordale PS. It was around 1962. I was a failing student when I had the good fortune to have this lovely gentleman as my teacher. He helped me gain confidence in math but most importantly in myself. I am 72 now and had a successful career in financial planning which I attribute to him. He told us his home town was Paris and I had hoped to meet him again to thank him. I was very disappointed to find this obituary. Please accept my most sincere condolences.

Condolence: I heard Mr. Wayne Hulley speak twice on two PD sessions. I am saddened that I wanted to look him up (and make sure I referenced his words carefully) that he passed in 2014. He was one of the best inspiring teachers and I still recall his ideals of effective teaching; "teachers need to be in the classroom" to make a difference.

I am all choked up now; dealing with all these changes with our TDSB system; I was hoping to get some glimmer of wisdom/advice to trudge through my professional teaching career.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Condolence: Tonight, I searched up Mr. Hulley, because I wanted to know how he was. I was really saddened to find that you lost him six years ago. I never met Wayne, but I saw him speak to our province's teachers many years ago. He had a copy of his personal "sees" to hand out that day - things he saw or thought each day. It really struck a chord with me, and I have had it in my desk or on my wall since. I look at it often, and I think of that speech fondly as it helps me refocus or stay grounded. I just wanted to let Wayne know that, and to say thanks. Since I can't do that, and I don't know how to contact the family, I thought posting here may reach you, and let you know that Wayne is still reaching teachers and doing good.

Condolence: I am sorry that I am slow to know about Wayne's passing, but even with the delay I felt it important to let his family know about his impact.

I am a middle school principal and met Wayne at his "Building Better Schools" conference in Toronto (Oct 2013). It was the first time I had heard Wayne speak and he has left a lasting message with me. Wayne was a dynamic, energetic, passionate, knowledgeable presenter.

The main message I took from his sessions was his statement "are you getting by, or are you getting better?
" This is not only a powerful message professionally, but perhaps even more important on a personal level.
What I am trying to say in my sadness is that Wayne's message has inspired me to be a better school Principal, a better husband, a better dad, a better son. You get the idea.

I have used Wayne's message to help move my school's improvement plan forward. I have used Wayne's message to help me with the culture in my building and in moving teacher practice. I often tell my colleagues that if there is one speaker they must see, it is Wayne Hulley.

I do hope that you find some comfort in the lives that Wayne has touched. In the impact he has had, and continues to have on schools...and through those schools to the lives of the students he spent his career caring about.

I am forever changed by Wayne. I am deeply saddened by the passing of this Champion of Public Education. I hope that Wayne is looking down and knowing that I will continue to carry his torch forward. His message will not be forgotten.

My thoughts will continue to be with the family.

Condolence: I was so sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. I was Wayne's office administrator at George R. Gauld Jr. School in Etobicoke in the late 70's. He was a hard working, inspirational principal. The staff, students and parents saw first hand the care and respect he showed everyone who came into our school. We all enjoyed his sense of humour and his ability to make almost everything a positive experience. He made school a fun place to be. The fond memories of working with Wayne will stay with me forever, I can't help but smile when I think of him. Rest in Peace my friend. xo

Condolence: I was sorry to learn today that Wayne Hulley died last month. Wayne was a charming prince of a gentleman, a dedicated teacher and a fine school principal.
During my years at Etobicoke Bd. of Ed., he taught a lot of people what they needed to know, and always kept his priorities in the right order.

Condolence: Another light has gone out. Thanks to Wayne, however, many lights were turned on and still shine in his memory. It was with great sadness that I heard of Wayne's passing last month. As a fellow colleague in Etobicoke and practically a neighbour in Burlington, I was fortunate to have known Wayne for many years. He will linger in my memory as an excellent educator, powerful mentor, advocate for children and a breather of life into any staff who was fortunate enough to work with him. Wayne always had a whimsical sense of humour and was never without a funny story or joke that caused much laughter to lighten the spirit. Thanks for sharing your journey with us Wayne.

Condolence: Wayne did a lot of work with our school division; speaking at our start up rally or leading the Principals' Seminar at Waskesiu. Wayne's humour always lead the way. He never forgot a face, he would see you at a conference of 800, call you by name and ask how are things at Sask Rivers. Wayne was a leader in education and will be missed but never forgotten.

Condolence: I had the privilege of meeting Mr.Hulley through being a trustee. He was enigmatic, passionate and very kind. When I met him last spring,he disclosed to us his battle and his choice to not seek treatment but live and love out the rest of his days--it made an impact on us all and for that I am grateful. May you seek peace in the memories of your husband, father, colleague and friend.

Condolence: I am so sad to hear of Wayne's passing. He was a true inspiration. I first met Wayne when he was the Vice Principal at Braeburn Public School. He demonstrated to me what it looks like to believe unconditionally in children and to work everyday to help them believe in themselves. There are many of us who are better people because we knew Wayne and I am grateful for the lessons he taught me.
