Cousin Clare

Clare was involved with the Ridsdale family for most of my life. He was one of the group of older cousins on the Nearingburg side. So I didn't know him very well when we were kids. I remember visiting Aunt Marg in Hamilton and being impressed by the technical drawings Clare produced for a refractory company. We connected in Toronto while Clare was getting his teaching certificate and I was studying Architecture at UofT. His interest in my studies and drafting advice was very helpful. It was easy to see that he would be a good teacher because he was really interested in people as much as their work. After Sharon and I married, we visited with Clare and Ellen several times at the historic old house they renovated in Ayr. In 1969, he arranged for us to stay with his sister-in-law in Ireland while we were on holiday in Europe. We lost touch for a while after his divorce but did get to see him from time to time with my mom & dad Lenore & Oliver Ridsdale; and at family gatherings, reunions, weddings and funerals. I remember his country properties and the horses. Just like in Ayr we talked about details of construction and approvals. He loved buildings and construction. More recently we kept in touch via email. Clare was always interested in other people and wanted to know what every one was up to. He and Cecelia visited with my mother Lenore often over the past few years (although she was never sure exactly when they would turn up. He was a character. I enjoyed his company whenever we met. I'll miss him.
